Love God with All Your Mind

Romans 12:1-2

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.
2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

It begins

with the mind

  • Faith begins as an intellectual action. Belief starts in the Mind. Proverbs tells us over and over that wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord.
  • But even more basic that that is how we are to love God.

Matthew 22:37

Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’

How Should God’s People Love Him With Their Minds?

Spend Time In God’s Word

Deuteronomy 6:4-9

4 “Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God, the LORD is one!
5 You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.
6 “And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.
7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up.
8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes.
9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

  • At the beginning of God’s relationship with his people at Sinai, God wanted them to know they had the command to teach their children. They had the job to teach their children the commandments of the Lord.
  • How often were they to do this? ALL THE TIME. This command wasn’t a, ’hey, when you have the time, go through the commandments with your children.’ It was a command to saturate the child’s life with the commandments of God.
  • Talk to them always about them.

Psalm 1:1-2

1 Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly,
Nor stands in the path of sinners,
Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD,
And in His law he meditates day and night.

Seek After Wisdom

Proverbs 8:12-21

12 “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence, And find out knowledge and discretion.
13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.
14 Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom; I am understanding, I have strength.
15 By me kings reign, And rulers decree justice.
16 By me princes rule, and nobles, All the judges of the earth.
17 I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.
18 Riches and honor are with me, Enduring riches and righteousness.
19 My fruit is better than gold, yes, than fine gold, And my revenue than choice silver.
20 I traverse the way of righteousness, In the midst of the paths of justice,
21 That I may cause those who love me to inherit wealth, That I may fill their treasuries.

The Bible’s Studied People

Studied People In Acts

  • 4:13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.
  • 7:22 And Moses was learned in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and was mighty in words and deeds.
  • 13:7 who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man called for Barnabas and Saul and sought to hear the word of God.
  • 17:11 These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.
  • 18:24 Now a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man and mighty in the Scriptures, came to Ephesus. … 28 for he vigorously refuted the Jews publicly, showing from the Scriptures that Jesus is the Christ.
  • 22:3 “I am indeed a Jew, born in Tarsus of Cilicia, but brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, taught according to the strictness of our fathers’ law, and was zealous toward God as you all are today.
  • 26:24 Now as he thus made his defense, Festus said with a loud voice, “Paul, you are beside yourself! Much learning is driving you mad!”

Our Idealogical Age

2 Corinthians 10:5

We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ,
