About Abe
Thanks for coming to my website. This thing is very much a work in progress. You may find some places that are still very much under construction' or they don't work at all.
The Purpose Of This Website
This website is an extension of the files that I have on my computer. Using the magic of Emacs, org mode, git, CSS, and HTML, it turns into this beautiful website. A good way to think of this website is these are my notes that I write at large. I write a lot for preaching and teaching and I want a place to store all these notes for others if they find them useful. I also spend a fair bit of time studying the Bible using plain text or org mode. Once I've set up this system from my notes to this website, it actually doesn't take very long for me to push my notes to this website. These are the great ones.
Richard Feynman was a physics teacher and an exceptional one at that. One of the key components he thought when learning is to be able to teach someone else as you're learning to have someone in the back of your mind as you're learning. And so this website functions like that. These are the notes that I write for myself, but I also have in mind others who will come across and read these notes.
And those of us who have taught or preached understand how much more we understand something when we preach or teach it versus taking a class on it.
The Bible Section
The main feature of this website is I have the Berean Standard Bible here with my notes. The Berean Standard Bible is a public domain Bible that uses modern language. So I have created my own and I am creating my own headings and notes that are linked to each other in essence what I'm doing is creating my own study Bible. I've used different paper inductive study Bibles in the past or Scripps or journals. But for me, this digital method is by far the most enjoyable to use and the most sustainable for me.
One feature of the Bible section is the notes on the side. These are atomic notes that are developed out of Nikolas Luhman's Zettlkasten system. Lots of different rabbit trails to chase.
Sermons and Classes
This website also serves as an online digital repository of my classes and sermons. They probably don't have much use to the average visitor to this website. But they are very useful for me. And they're out there in case anyone is curious as far as what I do when I preach and teach. I use Reveal.js for my sermons and class slides and I use an HTML web page with some CSS for my speaking notes. This allows me to use any web browser to teach and preach from. It also works really well with emac's org mode using org-re-reveal.
